minimize : 최소화하다, 줄이다

Let's try to minimize the cost of our office supplies.

사무용품 비용을 최소화합시다.

 

grave : 중대한, 심각한

The CEO has grave responsibilities of leading this company.

CEO는 이 회사를 이끌어 갈 막중한 책임이 있습니다.

 

** 방송 들을 때, 주치쌤께서 grave가 무덤이라는 의미인데 그만큼 중요한(?) 의미다 하고 말씀하시는걸 이렇게 이해했는데..ㅠㅠ 영어로 유머 얘기하는거 알아듣는게 제일 어렵다.. 멜론 다시 듣기로 들어봐야겠다..

grave는 명확하게 기억이 나는게, 영화 킹스스피치(King's Speech)에서 마지막에 주인공 버티가 중대 연설할 때 grave 라는 단어가 여러번 나와서 기억을 하고 있다.. grave 라는 단어가 잘 안되서 고생하다가 결국 멋지게 연설에 성공하는 버티가 나온다. 다음은 grave가 나온 그 연설 시작 부분 대사..

calculated risk : 예견되는 위험, (미리) 계산된 위험 / a risk that is carefully measured in order to reduce loss; a reduced chance of failure

 

예문 1) Know when to take calculated risks.

예견되는 위험을 감수해야 할 때를 파악하라.

**외울 것! 이런 짧은 문장이 더 어렵다..

 

예문 2) Instead of paying the angry client, we took a calculated risk and decided to go to court.

분노한 고객에게 비용을 지불하는 대신에, 우리는 예상되는 위험을 감수하고 법정에서 다투기로 결정했습니다.

 

**(단수일 때는 관사 꼭 붙일 것! 복수일 때는 뒤에 s붙이고 a 빼고 쓰기!)

take ownership : ~에 대해 책임감을 갖다, ~한 행동에 대해 책임을 지다 / to take full control or responsibility of somthing

예문 1) Take ownership when you make a mistake.

실수 했을 때 책임을 지세요.

 

예문 2) Do your best to finish it by Friday If you can't, I promise to take ownership.

금요일까지 끝내도록 최선을 다하세요. 할 수 없대도, 책임은 분명히 내가 안겠어요.
